'Monsters University' Director Dan Scanlon Remembers His First Moviegoing Experience
Monsters University, the latest animated feature from the wizards at Pixar Animation Studios, doesn’t open in theaters until June 21, but we have a special treat for Pixar fans.
Recently, Fandango traveled to Pixar’s headquarters in Emeryville, CA to learn more about the Monsters prequel and speak to the creative team behind the film. We watched 40 minutes of the movie and learned a lot more about the plot. We’ll share all of that as we get closer to the film’s release date.
But in honor of the launch of the Fandango Family Room, Monsters University director Dan Scanlon answered a few recurring questions we have about the moviegoing experience:
Do you remember the first time you went to the movie theater? What did you see? Who took you? Were you a kid? Did your folks bring you to something you were dying to see? Did they surprise or challenge you with a unique theatrical experience?
We asked Scanlon if he remembered the first movie he ever saw in a theater. His answer might surprise you:
I love that deep down, Michael Keaton – the voice of Chick Hicks (from Cars) and the Ken doll (from Toy Story 3) – actually helped influence the storytelling sensibilities of a future Pixar director. That feels like the universe has aligned.
Fandango’s Family Room will have tons of exclusive content tied to family movies as we roll along, so be sure to check back with us often … especially closer to June 21, when Monsters University stomps into theaters.
In the meantime, let us know what you think of the new section, and what you’d like to see on the site. We’re anxious to start a conversation with family members as they plan their movie memories. We’ll see you at the movies.
